Win-Win at the Noelene Shadforth Melbourne Cup Luncheon
Fun, frivolity and fundraising collide at the Noelene Shadforth Melbourne Cup Luncheon on Tuesday November 5 where fine dining and wining is the method and changing the lives of young people with a disability is the result.
The event will raise funds for STEPS Charity to support STEPS Pathways College in giving young adults with a disability the opportunity to learn skills for a lifetime of independence. “It’s a win-win,” said STEPS Charity Manager Angela Harrison. “What better time is there to raise funds for a life-changing cause and have an absolute blast doing so than at the Melbourne Cup?”
Bella Venezia will host the event this year, an award winning restaurant and bar on Mooloolaba’s vibrant Esplanade at Pacific Beach Resort. With fine dining and quality food and wine, Bella Venezia is the perfect venue for the event Angela calls a “labour of love.”
“Noelene Shadforth has been behind our Melbourne Cup events for two years now, and we are incredibly grateful for her and what she’s helping achieve,” Angela said. “In 2018 this was a sell-out event, and we are excited to see it come together this year with some new surprises in store.”
With Nickleby the Magician as the event emcee, Angela said there will be “plenty of surprises” at every turn. Nickleby’s unique blend of comedy and magic is sure to keep guests entertained while the sweepstakes and raffles will keep the excitement high.
Glamour is the order of the day with hats, heels, fascinators and frocks stealing the show. Prizes will be awarded for ‘best dressed male and female’ and ‘best fascinator and headwear’ while a fun fashion parade by Birds in Paradise and Avenue J Jewellery will show off race-day fashions.
While the Noelene Shadforth Melbourne Cup Luncheon is a day of spring racing festivities celebrating ‘the race that stops a nation,’ it is ultimately about supporting STEPS Charity to change the landscape of opportunity for young people living with a disability through STEPS Pathways College. The first program of its kind in Australia, the College uses a holistic learning model combining practical and actual living experiences to equip students with the confidence they need to take charge of their independence and their future.
Business people from around the Coast are supporting STEPS Charity through attending the event including local MPs Federal Member for Fisher Andrew Wallace and Member for Nicklin Marty Hunt.
Angela said the day would not be possible without the dedication and generosity of volunteers, in particular Donna Niazov of Family Friendly Carpet Cleaning who helped “drive the event from its outset.”
“Anyone interested in supporting STEPS Charity in a life changing cause while having a fantastic time in the process should come along,” she said.
