Ben and Amanda Murphy are the proud owners of BA Murphy Constructions – a building company based on the Sunshine Coast with operations in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.
BA Murphy Constructions directly employs over 20 staff and works with hundreds of tradespeople, suppliers and consultants across Australia. Ben and Amanda believe that success is nothing without being able to give back to your community and your loved ones. Rebecca is a highly qualified media and marketing professional with 25+ years’ experience as a journalist and communications strategist. She has managed public affairs for government, universities, charities and business in Australia, the UK and Ireland.
Rebecca has postgraduate qualifications in communication management and provides student internships and mentoring, as well as lecturing in media and communication studies, at 3 universities.
Supporting charities and not-for-profit community organisations is her passion; Rebecca provides strategic marketing and planning advice voluntarily to several boards of charity foundations, schools, media and community organisations. Rebecca believes in empowering people and building communities through effective communication.
John is a director of Kook, a digital agency based in Mooloolaba.
A Queenslander by birth he grew up in Canberra. After high school there, and university in Sydney (Mechanical Engineering UNSW), he ended up in media management roles through Western Australia, Victoria, NSW and the Sunshine Coast.
John is married to Caroline who he met when they studied together at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. They have a son Gabe and two daughters, Milli and Jemima.
Wendy is a well-known local business woman with a strong track record of investing in successful ventures.
She built Express Print & Mail from a one person small shopfront to the successful business it is today – the largest full service commercial print and mailing operation under one roof on the Sunshine Coast.
With a staff of over 40 people, Wendy manages all HR, finance and administration for the business and works closely with the sales and marketing team.
In 2016, Wendy was awarded the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network “Corporate Business Woman of the Year”.
In her free time she can be found in the gym or on her stand up paddleboard exploring the beautiful waterways of the Maroochy River.
Stuart Coward is a highly experienced business professional having established a string of successful business ventures in the training, hospitality and employment industries prior to joining STEPS. Stuart’s strategic negotiating skills and passion for community development has seen him forge effective partnerships nationally and internationally including the securement of several global sister city agreements.
As Executive Officer of STEPS Group Australia Stuart seeks out innovative partnerships with industry and government that provide opportunities for growth and diversification in line with STEPS’ strategic objectives.
Stuart has held a number of community leadership roles and today is a representative of the Qld Health and Community Services Industry Skills Council.
Carmel Crouch’s appointment as Board Chair started more than 27 years ago when STEPS was just a small organisation trying to provide young people with a disability with opportunities for workplace participation and independence. Today Carmel is the Chair of a much larger organisation that helps many individuals all over Australia strive for a brighter future.
As Chair Carmel facilitates STEPS Group Australia’s strategic planning and major decision making processes. Her in-depth knowledge of not for profit corporate governance, coupled with her service delivery expertise and determination for social equality, has been instrumental in the ongoing success of the organisation.
